Lingering Monster
Omnipotently lingering pain;
What causes every wax and wane?
A deep longing, a gaping hole
A hidden haunting in my soul.
I’ve filled my life to overflow,
Everything to let it go…
Yet there are moments I know,
The omnipotent: This won’t let go.
Through the blessed day awake;
Fending off the monster aches,
Until exhaustion concedes defeat
And my body cries: I need sleep!
Then from its nesting hole glows a grin
In evergreen hope: Tonight I win.
Through the dead of night,
Until the break of dawn,
The monster and I, we fight.
With all my soul, my goal in sight,
No, it can’t, it shan’t, get control,
The power will stay with my soul.
