The girl who rode her bike
There was once a girl who couldn't ride a bike. As hard as she tried, it was inevitable that she would fall. She tried to paddle but when she did she became unbalanced and tumbled down. When she tried to balance she went too slow and came to a disappointing stop.
Now she rarely spoke or tried her hand at anything. But at this one thing she gave her all. She had gone up to a shop one day and saw a brand new bike. She waited till it got dark and then broke in and stole it.
It was only after she got the bike she realized that it wasn't like a motorbike, and definitely not like her sporty one. Still all said and done, she practiced on her own. Fall after fall. Nothing but her determination drove her on.
After about a week on her own, she started to practice on a skateboarding arena. Still she had not got a hold of it. A boy started noticing her. This boy she thought wanted to learn how to ride a bike too. He came over and asked her about it. She replied that her dad had brought her one and that she was not able to ride it. Thus in not wanting to disappoint her father she was valiantly learning by her self. But riding she said was hard.
The boy then replied that his dad owned the local bike shop and that a rare bike had been stolen a few nights ago. And that it was an unridable bike. He then said that it was the same exact model and colour the girl was riding. So it was a good thing that she didn't buy it herself. It was good that her dad had brought it. Otherwise... He then asked what her father did.
She rolled her sleeves up and told the boy that her father was always away on business trips. That he was a very aggressive business man. All of his staff were afraid of him. She liked the boy but the boy was very intrusive. The boy liked the girl but she was too secretive. The boy knew that she was a liar. His father was a kind and understanding man and had said that there was only one bike of that kind. And it was built for only one person in the world. And that that person had stolen it. But he would not press charges. This was because he was a good man who did brilliant things.
The boy looked at the girl and felt sorry for her. He then reached for her hand and said liar don't lie. Keep your secrets from the world but open up to me. The girl who rode the bike or tried to ride the bike was afraid that he would roll up her sleeves... She then faced her fear and turned around. She lifted her t-shirt around the back. Keeping her modesty she told him that the scars were by a leather belt. And that was all he was going to be told. The rain began falling.
He picked her bike up and remembered something his grandmother had told him before she died. She had said on her death bed sad times don't last. And he said the same thing to the girl in front of him. Sad times don't last. Ride your bike and be free, I understand my father now.
She knew not what to say to the boy now. They were oceans apart separated by the rain. Thunder cackled far off somewhere. What's the saddest thing that has happened to you she asked. More then your grandmother dying. He replied instantly because the answer was obvious. I watched my mother die he said. Oh she replied. They stood stark still wondering what to do next. Can you really not ride she asked. Of course I can he replied. My dad owns a bike shop. I'll double you home. He said. Even in the rain she asked. Even in the rain he said. And so both boy and girl rode away in the rain, back to her maladjusted home. Where love and care was sought yet forgotten.
