“I love your hair. Your skin. Those emerald eyes. I love everything about you.”
Joanne gave Michael’s sea blue orbs one of her famous looks but didn’t stop her paperwork.
They both worked at Snyder, Foster, McGill, Bates and Mashburn.
“Thank you, Michael.” Joanne said. “But I’m quite sure you’ve told me that before.”
“Uh, you wouldn’t believe this cute Italian restaurant I discovered on 39th.
We could go for dinner this very evening. Mmm, linguini in creamy langostino
sauce and fresh garlic bread.”
“Michael. You know I’m on a diet. Sad but true.”
“Oh, what harm’s one little dinner gonna do? Life’s short, Jo.”
“Exactly why I’m dieting, Michael.”
“I don’t know,” he continued. “You have—it’s hard to describe. It’s certainly
something irresistible. If I could just put my finger on it.”
“One problem is that you have ten fingers, Michael. All curious,” Jo said. “Something tells me they’re better off in ye olde trouser pockets. Get my drift?”
“I don’t want any drift, Jo. I want both bow and stern.”
“Well smooth sailing, Sweetheart. But in other waters,” Jo said.
“You just don’t get it, do you?” Michael asked. “I’m offering the best. Your memories’ll
last way past your grandkids. I’m…”
Jo stopped a moment. “Michael, that’s enough. I’ll just have to try harder in my dreams.
Now go home to Patsy, your three kids, the dog, cat and handpainted turtle.”
“You forgot the mother-in-law,” said Michael, getting his things. “She’s here for two months.”
