Warm Weather in Mid-March

A warm and welcome
March wind blows
our fair hair leaves break loose
from the poplars and soar
almost high like our red-yellow kite
then land noiselessly
on tops of cars, trucks and roofs.
Dust devils excite and threaten
us as we blink for protection
and sand soaks in making our scalps
gritty-itchy as we play, untiringly
shriek amid dogs barking
premature buds new green grass
cars and trucks passing by with
rolled-down windows and
although the spring is false
our joy, thirst and shortness
of breath are the contrary.
