You would hardly have known they’d gone –
that morning
 
but for the blossom on the cherry tree
 
falling...falling
 
never known anything was wrong 
 
but for tears 
masquerading as dew...
in Mahatma Ghandi’s eyes...
 
only a statue, yes,
 
and yet, such – 
the silence...after
 
A silence
only follows
the ceasing
of a tolling
of a bell...
 
never known so many souls were lost 
that morning
 
but for a woodlark’s plaintive song, begging 
in humanity’s name
they stay
 
and for anyone’s god – regardless
of creed or colour
 
to put back the clock –
stop the rise 
and the fall of the tide 
 
and the heavens’ sweet sway...

I liked A silence only follows the ceasing of a tolling of a bell... leading into thoughts that we only really realise people's value and contribution when they have gone. How we long for hate and bloodthirstiness, and such stupid madness to be gone. Rhiannon

It hardly seems yesterday, let alone ten years on, since that fateful day.  Listening to eye witness accounts of people involved in the Tavistock Square travesty, the one overwhelming thing they remember is the silence that ensued.  The silence before the storm, when it was realised that in this location, alone, thirteen people lost their lives.  In all, apart from the four bombers, 52 civilians were killed and at least 700 injured.

A very moving and appropriate poem for those who were lost in those horrible incidents ten years ago. Last Friday's commemorative events really brought it all back, and coming just over a week after the Islamic fundamentalist terrorist attack on the tourists in Tunisia, which again could have been any of us, made it all the more poignant.
Why is there so much hate amongst the groups who do this?

Kurt...firstly...thank you so much for reading this and taking the trouble to share your thoughts.    Your words ring so very true, and I don't think anyone could answer your question but the perpetrator(s) of each one of these heinous crimes, themselves.  It is beyond humanity's comprehension, which I guess sets these individuals apart.
