She's underweight for her age
Put her on the scales again
Support her head for goodness sake!
Didn’t the midwife teach you anything?
Why don’t you want to breast feed?
She shouldn’t puke so much
What kind of formula do you give her?
 
Shame your breasts are painful
The price you’ll have to pay
No we don’t prescribe those pills...
Not anymore.  They worked, and yet
The ethos, not encouraged
Try a cabbage compress
You sure you won’t breast feed?
 
Don’t pick her up each time she cries
Don’t let her cry too long
Babies communicate through their crying
Learn to speak her lingo ...
Don't let her sleep on her front 
Won't sleep on her back, so
Let her know who calls the tune
 
Let her cry sometimes  
You don’t want to spoil her
Do you? Would you? Should you?
Don’t like the look of her poo
Better send a sample to the lab
 
Don’t worry about her so much
Relax. 
Nasty nappy-rash
How do you treat it?
That’s so 'yesterday'.  Try this
 I’ll write it down.
Got a pen and paper?
Don’t worry. I’ll do it later.
 
How often do you change her?
Not nearly often enough
Take time out to put your feet up
Don’t be afraid to touch her
She won’t break
Are those bruises on her arm?
 
Don’t let her rule your life
Babies thrive on routine
She’s too young for a room of her own
Make sure you’re a wife as well as a mother
Will you be having any more?
Are you certain you won’t breast feed?
Can I take that 'yes' as a ‘no’?

Loved this and lived this. There is so much conflicting advice from the 'breastapo' on what to do. New mums need support and reassurance, not badgering and judgement. Wish this had been written when my wife was having our first!

Aargh!  the conflicting advice is so frustrating, I'd have added in the 'don't let her/him sleep on their front/ won't sleep on their back' battle.

Nice one, scratch.  Did have that bit in, then it seemed to fall by the wayside, so have remedied.

I think the 'officials' (nurses, health visitors …) feel so badgered themselves over what the latest advice is, and what to make sure they get said etc, that they can't just relax and help the mums to relax. Maybe that's where a friend or your own Mum can sometimes help. Rhiannon

You forgot 'give him a bottle of formula' when you have been breastfeeding every twenty minutes 24 hrs a day for five weeks. 'It won't kill him' No. But I will kill you, you ignorant link of shit. If another human tries to sabotage my commendable breastfeeding progress with Aptamil and dummies, I may cause a riot.

Sorry Tina, forgot myself. I love this. Very relevant to me at the minute and maternally spot on.
