Crazy for You

Azure Hawkers, Common Blues, 
Shadow-Damsels skim the lake 
as I lie in fields of vetch,  sweet 
eglantine, columbine and clover.
 
Almost feel the sky would be mine
for the asking.  I remember the time
you would have gladly given it to me, 
having once given me the moon,
but maybe I have grown too greedy.
 
I should shrug this chip from my shoulder –
ditch this  duffle-bag and suitcase. 
Travel light, didn’t you always say? 
I might just take your advice;
we were going nowhere, you said
when I thought we’d arrived.
 
Two swans – slicing through
the quietness of it all, seem
to look my way.  What would
they know about the vagaries of love;
they mate for life, don’t they?
 
Something in the air, or maybe
the wind through the reeds – demented 
wild imaginings – whisperings, telling me
not to waver, but to wade on through
this blue-blaze of butterflies,
to the other side of crazy.
 
But every time I try to run away
from the heat of your lightning
the din of your thunder,
I crave your stillness in the eye
of the storm, and settle for this Eden
either in bud, bloom or burning.

What a stunning piece of work. Always know I've been bowled over when itching to quote lines. Blue-blaze, swans sliced, other side of crazy.Sigh.

That last stanza seems to picture the struggle in a tempestuous temper and relationship, where the calm 'eye of the storm' is so appreciated, and sought after. Rhiannon

Hi Tina

This poem from start to finish is so beatifully done. The reader can feel the grass and see the sky and appreciate the feelings of the poet. I always wonder whether animials who mate for life have any side issues in the meantime - based on being attracated to another of the species, or just getting tired of the same old life. Probably not, or somebody would have noted it.
