It hardly seems but a minute ago,
you were knee-high to a space-hopper;
got your first visit from the tooth-fairy –
learned to ride a two-wheeled bike,
or the day your mum called to say
you’d bought your first bra...
The evening you sang, Rainy Night
in Georgia with a jazz band
at your school, and I laid eyes
upon a beautiful young women
for the very first time.
Such is life...it’s gone in a trice,
so grab it with both hands,
but don’t forget, nothing worth having
comes without a price and I’m not talking
Euros, dollars, decimal or pounds,
shillings and old-fashioned pence.
It’s all about compromise; not living
in the past or the future. Making each second
count, because it’s moments we remember,
not the days themselves...
accepting time moves on and that nothing
stays the same except time itself; it’s how
it changes us that will shape this world of ours
even more than blue-tooth, and computers.
Don’t be in a hurry to grow up. Most folk
I know would give anything to go back
there again...to that neck of the woods
they call Childhood; contrary to belief
it’s a place, not a time
and never forget your late aunt's philosophy;
when they're writing that epitaph
it's not the dates that matter - it's the dash
in between's the important bit.
So... good luck finding Ashley, Ashley,
and in that finding have fun. When it comes
to the crunch, that’s what counts.

Hi Tina,
I hope Ashley got to see this poem, because I think it's a great tribute to her.
You made so many good points within the read, that I found myself smiling and nodding in agreement.
Well done on this one and thanks for sharing.
Jenny.
