A light breeze
wafted the first rain,
and the bells
of a church
in the middle distance;
the setting sun
daubing roses
on her cheeks.
People drifted
in and out...
smoothing sheets –
frowning
at charts.
‘Sing to me,’
she had said,
yesterday – when
she was lucid
so today
I brought in
my guitar,
and somewhere
between
Scarborough Fair,
and The Sound
of Silence
she slipped away,
and I’d give anything
to know
if, perhaps,
she’d heard me.

Wonderul Tina! I particularly like the use of the songs - between the fair and the silence, she slipped away. Beautiful work.

Sand lady.
Nice one.
I know a classical guitarist who plays in our local hospice.
She also works elsewhere taking groups on theraputic musicial journeys.
All very calm and serene.

What perfect music to sing

What perfect music to sing to someone as they
fade. I bet the lady in question heard those
songs. They say that even after the heart stops
beating the spirit still lingers awhile.
My dad loved Enya and when he took his last
breath, I played her CD for him, I'm sure he
would have lingered and listened.
Thankyou for sharing this poem Tina.
Jenny.

Hello Tina, Another moving
Hello Tina,
Another moving and sad poem beautifully expressed.
What a nice way to go sandwiched between those two songs.
