Us, gazing at a cocktail of stars
the moon – lazing on her back
the fire blazing in the hearth
you – in your azure robe
a gin and tonic, and Campari
and orange, on the side
a shuffle of shapes and shadows;
wind – toying with the trees
the screech of branches – overhang
the window over our bed
and you, asking how far it was
from the aloneness of one star
to the next
the phone, doing its stuff; Grandma
had passed away. Me, holding you close
as you trembled as you wept, and
I thought about what you’d said, and
it should have been, but it wasn’t, only
I wish it was, all about us.

Hi Tina,
loved that second stanza, it had a haunting quality about it.
In the first stanza...there was a cosy feeling shared between two people, that moment that only they no.
Very much enjoyed reading.
Jenny.

Those last three lines - thought provoking. I thought it was clever how you built the scene leading up to the moment. Very easy to visualize. Lovely writing, Tina.
