Spring, summer and autumn come
and go...when lilac halos ring the trees,
and a skylark sings its promises
of evenings gift-wrapped in silk...
breeze-dried, a nightgown
on the line, struggles to break free
as Painted Ladies flit, skittishly by,
amber-spritzing star-studded hedgerows.
Presently, Cimmerian grow the days...
and I am content to stay inside, head
on your knee – dreaming, next to you;
glad of the respite, winter brings...
A piano stands silent in the half-light;
my touch, not as deft as once it was,
yet melodies live on in the rafters of our home...
hand-cut by you, in the heady days of June.
Now is the winter of our discontent, made
glorious summer, by the sum of you
and me.

I loved the image of the night dress in the breeze with the butterflies. I especially liked the way life progressed through the seasons with the inanimate steeped in memories. The ending is perfect.

Pleasant companionship
Pleasant companionship warming the hard seasons. Interesting interjection of the respite in winter from summer labours. Rhiannon
