Things make me want a Duvet Day

Meeting someone in the street, tells me,
‘Time’s a great healer’; dogs that make
 a bee-line for my crotch.
 
Fire doors – propped open in the office.
Tradesmen – builders, roofers, plumbers, 
swear blind they’ll be with you at ten, 
then never show.
 
Filling in forms; infuriating, ‘Tear Here’, 
perforations which do anything but.  Shops
with signs saying, ‘Break It and It's Yours’.
 
Jokers who tap their wrist as they ask
what o-clock it is.  I know where my watch is, 
but where the hell is theirs? Bad hair
and haven’t got a thing to wear days.  
 
The sock always goes AWOL in the wash...
The dreaded ‘colour-run’ when you tell him,
‘hand on heart’, you dyed it purposely;
a ‘must have’, fashionista green.
 
The dream I can’t remember, 
and the one I can’t forget.  
 
The bats which flatly refuse to use 
the bat-box,  painstakingly 
sited in the barn for them.  
 
People who preach, ‘Time’s a great healer’, 
or did I already mention that?  
 
Thinking how much they’d grown...
a brother’s stubby little fingers, never again
mingling with her long, piano playing ones.
 
The pale pink stub of two theatre tickets, 
for ‘Cats’ marks the place in a book – 
the last chapter of Jude the Obscure 
I never finished reading her...

I was chuckling at this (especially the bit about the tradespeople - oh yes) and then by the end I had tears in my eyes.  Brilliant mix of the mundane and the heartfelt.

Some lovely little interjections here add an air of melancholy to the brisk run-through of things that get under your skin. These interjections seems to burrow a little deeper. Wonderfully structured as each little deeper moment comes at just the right time to make us go back over and wonder at its succinct depth.

Yes why do they have those signs 'Break it and it's yours' - puts you off shopping!

'The dream you can't remember and the one you can't forget'  - poignant. 

'Times a healer' hits hard, especially the on the repitition.

You've made me chuckle. At one point, I believed that dogs could smell me at 56 metres. Stick your time and your healer up your great asses. Where would one be without humour. An achingly apt piece for the tragi-comedy of life.
