Dear diary, Wednesday 3rd of June 2020.
My path is filled with thoughts of adventure, the great unknown fills me with some trepidation, yet exhilaration of, where will it take me? How many hours will pass before I arrive at my next destination?
I see fields of barley and wheat, somewhere far off in the distance I hear gun fire, it must be the clay shooting I hear so much about along this ridge way.
I'm moved by the many long wild grasses the farmer has left to wildlife, it's such a pleasure to see so many bees and butterflies going about their business on such a glorious day
The breezes help to clear my mind, as I take deep breathes feeling my lungs fill with air, there's a kind of magic about being up on the ridge way, everything is so much easier here...well apart from the sharp stones that seem to penetrate my feet, even through my boots. We take to the grassy verges and watch as two snails cross our path. Me and partner decide to have a snail race, watching to see which one gets to its destination first, both of us silently cheering on our chosen snail. Of course my partner's came in first and won. "Well! That passed about ten minutes of our walk, so we were ready to continue on.
The few people we did see, seemed to be happy, their smiling faces and "hellos" were very welcoming. We chatted about two helicopters that were circling off in the distance. My partner said it was probably helicopter training, as we are near the base. Then we got onto the subject of how we'd manage if we were stuck out in the middle of nowhere alone. I'd been watching Alone The Beast, about survival out in the wilds without tools. My partner used to be in the army when younger, I think he would survive, though for me I'm not so sure, but when I was younger I did do a lot of mad things, that now seem like they belonged to a different person.
After about two hours we turned and walked back to the car, it was just the right amount of treking for me, mainly because neither of us had walked that far in months being housebound. Our afternoon soon came to an end and it was nice to relax in front of the tv and just chill with a couple of lagers for me and cider for my partner.

A nice wander. Sorry your snail lost. I wouldn't survive for very long the wild, I hope I never have to try! Rachel :)
