When he arrived at his log cabin, he went to the shed where he kept the logs for the fire, picking some up, he felt contented and started to
whistle a tune as he made his way inside. Stamping the snow off his
boots, he put his lyre down on the table, then Yuri made his way over to the fire and gave it a good stoking, he placed some of the logs on,
then rubbed his hands together, feeling the warmth as once again it began burning brightly.
Taking his coat off he hung it on a hook by the door, then made himself a hot drink. Picking up his lyre he retired to bed, slipping in under the warm blankets, still clutching his magic lyre. Soon he fell in
to a deep sleep.”

All of a sudden, the old Grandfather clock chimed 8 0 Clock. The children were so entranced with the story, they hardly noticed the wind
whistling outside. But now Grandmother Vitachka had nearly come to the end of the story, so she carried on.

“It was Christmas morning, Yuri was awoken early by the sounds of shouting, laughter and screams of excitement. He pulled the covers off and stretched, then sat up wiping his eyes.
Getting out of bed, he walked bare foot over to the window and looked out. Yuri yawned then smiled, for all the children of the village were outside his door playing in the snow.
Yuri rubbed his hands together, then turned quickly and went to put on his boots and heavy coat. Opening the door, one of the children saw him and shouted, “look! It's Yuri.”
All the children stopped what they were doing and turned shouting.
“Merry Christmas Yuri,” for they knew he had helped to create the
Winter wonderland.
Yuri shouted back. “And a Merry Christmas to you too.”
His Christmas present to the children had worked for another year, as he too looked out across the Winter landscape, he'd helped to create in
one magical Christmas Eve.”

Vitachka looked at the children's faces and saw their tired eyes. “Right
children, it's time for bed now,” she said rising from her chair, a little
stiff in her old bones.
“But what about Babooshka...what happened to her?” said one of the children, coming to standing.
Vitachka smiled, saying. “Ah! Well that's another story. Come on...all of you off to bed now.”
The children put down their mugs, exclaiming reluctantly that they weren't tired, but nevertheless they kissed their Grandmother thanking
her for the story, then went to their beds.
It wasn't long before they were asleep and dreaming of Winter wonderlands and Jack Frost, with his magic beams of light.
The End.
