Don't try to conjure the dead at Halloween

it's not just good spirits that might be seen,

invisible places where evil comes through

means it could be the devil coming for you!

 

If you hear the sound of children at play

beware Satan can act in a mysterious way,

he'll skulk in dark shadows biding his time

pretending he's a friend...the benevolent kind,

 

then when he has you in his malignant presence

he'll take everything, even your spiritual essence,

evil will climb your walls, crawling across ceiling

if retiring he'll fall into dreams as you are sleeping.

 

So my advice to you on this day

shine a candle to light the way,

what has passed now has flown

blessing given...then leave alone.

So easy to say only having fun, but actually unhappy real fears deep down, and always danger in encouraging young ones to play with fire and fear. Thank God He's greater than all real evil, and the candle of trust in him in our heart can give true peace for ever. Rhiannon

This goes along really nicely, Jenny. The city where I live has built a large part of its tourist industry on ghosts - we are already in Halloween overkill! I am quite a fan of Halloween, though - my kids used to love the whole trick or treat thing.

I've heard York is full of so many old buildings that I can imagine there must be lots of hauntings. I do hope you and yours enjoy Halloween and keep safe.

This has a good rhythm and is sufficiently frightening for me to not want to conjure the dead at Halloween. And we won't have Brexit either so even less to fear. Enjoyed your warning of a poem. :)

The fourth verse is particularly scary! You make a good point that it is the candle part which is important not the darkness

It was this weeks I P that inspired me to write this poem, I'm not sure I would have even thought about it otherwise.

that fate thing is kinda tricky and halloween makes it more sticky, but I think you caught the vibe.
