Floating Cloud had overslept that morning, with all
the worry of whether Crazy Horse had managed to
dispose of Red Deer.
Kachina was already up, making good use of the
daylight hours. She had built the fire back up...
and was cooking some fish over the fire, the smell
had awoken Floating Cloud.
Suddenly he remembered about Crazy Horse kidnapping
Red Deer. Coming out of a dreamless sleep, he rose
and got dressed. He was eager to find out if his
neighbour had succeeded in his task, but he did not
want to appear to eager, incase Kachina became
suspicious.
Once he was dressed, he hand signed that he was
going down to the river to see if the fish were
biting that morning. "You come straight back,"
said his wife, "fish nearly ready to eat."
When Floating Cloud left his lodge, many of his
neighbours were already up and going about their
business. Luckily Crazy Horse was already up and
about, sharpening some spears outside his lodge.
It seemed the fish had been forgotten, as Floating
Cloud made his way over to his neighbours. As he
was walking, he glanced over to where Swift as Wind
had been standing the night before, Floating Cloud
couldn't believe it, 'where was the horse?' he
thought to himself, 'what's going on?'
When he reached his neighbour, he immediately hand
signed, "did you do as I asked, did you get rid of
Red Deer?" Crazy horse looked up from what he was
doing, then stood up and started to hand sign.
"Yes of course I did, but when I came out of my
lodge this morning, the boy's horse was gone... it
must have got loose, what we do now?"
Floating Cloud thought about it, then decided he
would venture over to Two Feather's lodge, perhaps
he would beable to shed some light on the disappearance of the horse. He told Crazy Horse
where he was going, then made his way.
On entering the lodge, Amadahy was preparing a broth, the aroma made him realise just how hungry
he actually was, he remembered the fish his wife
was cooking.
Amadahy turned, when she saw Floating Cloud,
"What you want?" she hand signed suspiciously, she
never did trust this man. "Where is Two Feathers,"
he hand signed back. "He has gone to look for Red
Deer, on Swift as Wind," she replied, "does that
surprise you?"
Floating Cloud decided to act all innocent, pretending he didn't know anything about the boy's
disappearance. "Where's the boy gone?" he enquired,
"I thought he was with you."
"So you know nothing of him disappearing?" Amadahy
questioned him. "No! why should I know where the
boy is? I just came to speak to Two Feather's."
"Well I hope this is nothing to do with you, because you are in big trouble with Kachina, if we
find out you are involved."
Floating Cloud, decided now was a good time to leave, 'that woman never keeps her nose out of other peoples business,' he thought to himself.
As he made his way back to his lodge to eat, he
wondered to himself, whether he wanted the horse
now, was it all worth it, with that meddling woman
on his back?
