Remembering

To perch beside
withered stone,
where grazed knees
once plunged from
limbs...as high as rooftops
now marked an epitaph,
Ergo I write of childhood;
as bone and ash this tree's
roots to suckle...a banquet
to feast upon,
fragile recollections haunt my
pensive musing...a medley of
remnants once hidden;
now offer themselves up,
I try to be blasé,
but the enmity
like a growth leaves
unpredictable accounts,
so I let the Ocean of doubt
wash over me,
knowing that with time
the stained impressions
are eradicated.
Then with night approaching,
I bring to this resting place
only sweet thoughts...with a
humble mind and a candle
to burn brightly; at the
mention of your name,
this night a light to guide...
to protect and watch over you,
and all those lost in barren lands
on this day and night of Samhain.

I like your poem and Happy
I like your poem and Happy Samhain to you Jenny! Apart from the hottest days of summer this is my best time of year. I was born 5 hours after this at the start of All Saints Day. Elsie

Jenny, I left you a message
Jenny, I left you a message yesterday and it didn't work - that's happened to another one recently too. I just wanted to say I also didn't know what Samhain was but I think I wrote that I liked the almost fearfulness of the first half and the reassurance of the last part. Hope this one works!!

Thanks for explaining all
Thanks for explaining all that, it wasreally interesting. In Seychelles our game was to try and climb up the pomme tree and see how far we could get before being covered with ants! The poem was a lovely way to remember those you have lost but who will be found again.

Oh, Jenny. I've just read that account and it brought the tears to my eyes. Such an inspired and lovely thing to do. No wonder this time of the year is particularly special to you. Thank you for sharing....and yes, I am having a bright and cheery day, if a touch on the breezy side.
