The family all sat down to a hearty Christmas
Dinner, pulling crackers, wearing paper hats and
generally having a good time. Everyone was full,
when mum said, "who's for Christmas pudding then?"
Everyone sat back.
"Go on then," said Dad, "just a bit for me."
"I want some," said Robert, with loads of cream."
"And me," said Ellie.
"None for me," said Grandma, who only had a small
appetite.
"I'll have a small bit," said Grandpa.
"How about our guest?" said Dad.
"Yes that would be very good, thankyou."
When they had finished eating, Martha poured some
fizzy wine and said,
"I would like to make a toast to mum and dad, I
want to thank them for coming to us for Christmas,
also for their help in the preparation of this
wonderful Christmas dinner we have just eaten.
John and I have brought you both a little something to say thankyou."
Martha handed her mum and dad an envelope.
"Why! what is this?" said mum.
"Open it," said Martha.
Mum opened the envelope and inside was a gift
voucher, for a weekend for two at a hotel with a
spa.
"Wow!" said Martha's father, "does that mean I get
a massage?"
Martha smiled, "sure does, if you want one."
Martha's mum laughed, "Oh he will love that!"
The day went far to quick, although the children
wouldn't agree, they had been up since 6am, they
could hardly keep their eyes open.
"Come on Ellie, Robert, it's time for bed."
"Aw! do we have to?" said Robert.
"It's 8.0' Clock, now come on up to bed, there's
another day tomorrow," said dad. "Say goodnight to
everyone."
Ellie and Robert kissed everyone goodnight and
made their way up to bed.
The old man said, "I hope you don't mind if I go
to bed too?"
"No ofcourse not," said Martha. "Have you got
everything you need?"
"You have been more than kind, I have everything
I need thankyou."
As he left the room, Martha's parent's decided
they would go up too.
"We will leave you two in peace and go up aswell,
I am sure you want some time on your own."
"Thanks mum, dad, see you in the morning."
Martha cuddled up on the sofa with John and a
bottle of wine.
"It's been some day, hasn't it?" she whispered to
John.
"It certainly has, I'm shattered," said John.
Later that night, with the fire almost out, they
retired to bed aswell.
