Summer is Here

Hooray, hooray, it’s finally here!
I am so happy
Oh dear, oh dear!
I am excited
But I must adhere
Or my butt
Will be severely seared.
I did my chores
They are finally done
I fed my pets
So it’s time for fun!
I fed my fish
And gave mom a kiss
So I opened the door…
And it was summer galore!
Bikes and balls
Purses and dolls
Knicks and knacks
And potato sacks!
I made some friends
And exotic fruit blends
And money too
So I bought a shoe.
And with that shoe
I made a zoo
A zoo for lizards
And scorpions, too!
I filled the zoo
Until it held no more
It was buzzing with life
Going overboard.
So I bought another shoe
A shoe to expand
And I made a tunnel
To separate lands.
A land of sand
It would be soon
Rather than dirt
For camels to roam.
I went to Egypt
With Mary Lou
And got a camel
A camel for two.
We rode the camel
Back to home
And set them safely
Inside the shoe-dome.
Birds and bees
We filled the shoes
Until we had
A lively zoo.
We expanded to a box
A box made of wood
We filled it with more
As we thought we should.
Elephants and bears
Seas and a lion
It filled to the top
So we had to make it giant.
Another box we thought
A box to let them trot
For zebras monkeys and turkeys
Another box we bought.
Filled to the top
They were
But Mary Lou and I
Made sure
That there’d be a third
A third box for
Tigers hens and squirrels.
Finally it was complete
The zoo was hard to compete
With birds and bees and tigers and lions
It was hard to beat.
Mary Lou and I
Were happy as can be
That summer was here
So we can run and frolic
Wherever we need.
When I went to bed
Before my sleep
I prayed to God
That my next summer day
Be as good as this one.
Amen.
