Tiny Raindrop

The crackle of thunder,
And flash of lightning,
Was a dead giveaway
To the oncoming rain…
…rain pouring down on the
Parched trees and brush,
Dancing lively in the wind,
Underneath the frighteningly
Gray skies.
Drip, drop, the sounds that
Rain drops make, plopping
Onto the millions of leaves
Wavering on their branches.
Plop, one raindrop plummets
From its cloud,
Landing cleanly and smoothly
Onto the nearest leaf below.
Ever so gracefully,
The drop slides down the middle
Of this leaf. As if on queue,
The leaf arches its back,
Bending down towards the
Branches below it.
Plop, again, as the raindrop
Slides onto another green leaf,
Until…
…p l o p… p l o p… p l o p…
The steady rhythm the raindrop
Creates, slowly starts to pick
Up its pace…
…p l o p, plop, plop…
The drop quickly skips from
Leaf to leaf, until finally…
…plop…
This drop of rain has landed
Onto the leaf-covered ground
Of the forest,
Along with all of the other
Raindrops,
Its sisters and brothers.
