Chapter 2
Fae
It had been a week since the encounter with Jerry and there had been no other Demon attacks. That seriously scared Me. Jerry normally did a chain of demons, not just one. I sighed as I sat on the couch. What was I going to do?
Hazel walked in and said, “You know, if you’re so trouble by this I could always do one of my foreseeing spells.”
“No way! First of all it drains your power heavily and you know how that could mess up the future.” I walked over to Hazel and said, “It’s too risky, we might need you for something more important.”
Hazel smiled and said, “I’m glad to feel needed.” We sat down on the couch and watched the news, like always.
Zeke walked in and yawned. I waved to him and he walked into the kitchen for some breakfast. I got up and went into the kitchen to make myself breakfast too. I poured myself some cereal while Zeke made himself eggs. He looked over at me and said, “So, what’s the plan for today?”
“I haven’t decided yet. I was thinking about scouting Jerry’s house, or just faking partnership to know what he’s doing.” I sighed and looked up from my cereal. He knew that I really didn’t feel like doing either.
“Well, they both sound like good ideas, but I was thinking more on relaxing and going out for a movie or something.” He smiled and took four movie tickets from his pockets. “Especially since I already bought them.”
I laughed and said, “Cool, which movie?”
He looked sheepishly left and then right, as if afraid of being over heard and then leaned in and whispered, “Werewolf in London.”
I choked on my cereal trying not to laugh. Of course he would watch a werewolf movie. Willow zoomed in just then and said, “There is no way we are watching another Werewolf movie. You really should let someone else choose.” I kept forgetting how well vampires could hear.
Hazel walked in too, and said, “Yah, well you just as soon pick a vampire movie.”
“So?”
I laughed and washed my bowl. I looked over the counter to the television screen to see if anything fishy happened. But they were just showing some air balloon contest. I sighed again at whatever prospect Jerry was planning.
* * * *
We walked to the movie theatres and talked about some of the new movies we’d like to see in the next couple of weeks. When we got to the theatre, I saw some funky looking dudes come in after us. They were kind of bulgy in the wrong spots. I knew right away that they were demons or some other kind of mythical creature, but as long as they didn’t do anything wrong, I wasn’t going to bother them.
We walked into our movie theatre and sat down in the way back. We were probably the first people there except for a couple people farther up. After like twenty minutes of previews and movie trivia, the movie started. It had one of those dramatic beginnings were you really don’t know what’s going on, but the graphics were kind of lame. I leaned back to enjoy two hours of cheesiness and popcorn.
In the middle of the movie, I had to go to the bathroom. That’s what I get for drinking a large soda too fast. I scrunched out of the isle with some difficulty and accidentally knock over Zeke’s popcorn. When I finally reached the end of the isle, I sighed in relief and went down the ramp to exit the theatre.
When I got outside I saw those bulky guys again, but they were just huddled in the corner, talking heatedly in whispers. One of them saw me, and they all stopped talking. Great, definitely suspicious. Well as long as they didn’t do anything wrong, I was fine, so I walked into the bathroom.
When I got out of the bathroom, the demon whatever’s had moved. They seemed to have left the theatres. I sighed in relief. That was one problem I didn’t have to worry about. I headed back towards the theatre when I felt like I was being watched. I stopped dead and looked around. I saw nothing. I started again, but stopped just as suddenly. It appeared that those demons weren’t as gone as I’d have liked. I walked back towards the theatre with more purpose in my stride, waiting for them to make the first move. Too bad I didn’t have any weapons on me. They were in my purse at my seat. That was helpful. Then I heard it. Something scraped and dragged behind me, and looking back I saw the food clerk getting dragged away.
“Dang it, stupid demons,” I grabbed the heaviest object off the nearest counter, which was a giant plastic pikachu toy. It would be helpful, I guessed. I ran behind the counter and saw the unconscious body of the clerk in the corner. He seemed to be fine, so I looked around for the demon. I couldn’t see anyone. I sighed. These guys were good hiders.
I heard something fall behind me, and when I swung around, one of the demons threw a dagger at me. I dodged out of the way, and caught the hilt. Nice, now I had a weapon. I ran towards him and went to do some damage when another dagger barely missed my leg. I stuttered to a stop and turned around. A bunch of stupid Clergy demons had surrounded me. They are like the bounty hunters of the ‘other realm’. So apparently I had some kind of bounty on my head. This was going to be tough to get out of. Clergies were skilled fighters and by themselves they were hard to escape from, and there were probably seven of them here. Either they really wanted me dead, or they thought I’d be hard to capture. I was hoping that they would want to catch me alive. That was my only chance of escape.
They slowly closed in, daggers held in and. Too bad they couldn’t talk in English because they were babbling in another language I couldn’t understand. They probably meant, ‘come willingly and we won’t kill you’. I sighed in relief. At least they wanted me alive. As they neared about a foot away from me, with victory on their faces, I jumped up and over them. One of them grabbed my leg but I thrust the dagger into his arm. I thought about screaming, but I didn’t want humans to get killed. I hoped that Zeke, Willow or Hazel would come looking for me. But that chance was slim. They were big movie fans. They probably thought I got sick or something.
Then I felt a prick in my side. I looked down and saw a dart protruding from me. I pulled it out, but I knew it was too late. Either it was a poison or a tranquilizer, but I was pretty sure it was a tranquilizer. I fell as it kicked in, and one the guys jumped on top of me to make sure I wouldn’t be able to escape.
I struggled futilely as things around me got blurry. They tied me up and carried me into the night under a cloak. As I blacked out, I heard them laugh.
