Army

I don’t want to join the army
I like my hair long
I already keep myself fit
And killing strangers is shit

I have no desire to be angry
I cannot be taught to hate
I will not succumb to mistrust
I will not donate my body to dust

I don’t want to play on PS3
Where death is common
And war is good fun
Humour doesn’t come out of a gun

If a war was inevitable
And I was forced to enlist
I would volunteer to teach
Bullets how to refuse to fire

I’d teach bombs to explode in scrap yards
This would cut out recycling time
Making the world a greener place
Without the loss of life

I’d show rockets a better way to work
One day a year on November the fifth
I’d send warplanes to air shows
And put generals out to grass

I’d send the tanks into parliament
And say how does it feel?
I’d show ministers the coffins
And say are they not better empty

I don’t want to join the army
I want to stay warm
Violence should never be a habit
And death should never be deliberate
