Behind the Bike Shed

After school
On a winters night
In the dark
Me and Jackie Cuddeson
Kissed for an eternity
We shivered from the cold
So we had to cuddle tighter
I remember her perfume
It had a fancy name
Something French
Like our kisses
We blew cold breath
In each other’s faces
And stared at the moon
That was as bright as a torch
With new batteries
This was forever
Until Mr Martin the Headmaster
Discovered us
And gave us both detention
The following day
Love can be cruel.

I like the tone and construction of this, the youthfulness of the couple really comes through.. The last stanza says it all.

I liked this so much. Told as it would have been told back then. 'Moon that was as bright as a torch with new batteries' - that's very special.
Enjoyed!
