The Dumb Waiter
I imagine you on the floor pulling lies out of hats
It looks so easy like throwing fishes to cats
Deception is your nature like winter and cold
I can’t find sincerity in anything you told
I spent some time as your prisoner of war
Often wondering what it was all for
You taught me things I’d never adopt
And before we got started I wished we had stopped
And I can’t believe that I saw beauty so deep
In someone so shallow who never lost sleep
As you cut through and smashed your own fairy tale
Leaving traces of dried blood and a life out on bail
With your paralysed imagination you never could fly
You could shut yourself off and never ask why
Move on to the next one and keep throwing rocks
Eventually you’ll get one that ticks every box
And back to suburbia the place you call home
With a brand new sucker so you won’t be alone
How can someone so attractive be so ugly inside
And be so callous and clinical with a life cut and dried
I withdraw my compliments and my kindness too
And I reclaim my dignity from the bottom of your shoe
now that you’re back in your domestic bliss
With husband number two and a completed list
I was once so stupid like a waiter so dumb
Hanging around for your truth to come
It took me too long to realise my fate
But I’m far happier now with my empty plate
Long may you revel in your tacky clichés
With your false morals and good wife plays
I said goodbye to the scars of this scrape
And I thank the stars for the greatest escape
