Optimist in love with a pessimist

She had a good feeling about this
She liked the warmth of that first kiss
He thought it was too good to be long
And began searching for things to go wrong

She liked his eyes and the way he spoke
And she laughed when he told a joke
He wasn’t sure if she was on his side
Was this the beginning of the slippery slide

She told all her friends about her new beau
She loved the excitement of new places to go
He kept things to himself afraid of his fear
That she would go distant if he ever got near

The novelty of new love was becoming hard work
She considered a bail out before she got hurt
He wanted to throw off the shackles of doubt
And tell her his feelings by screaming it all out

But neither expressed how they really felt
And the early passion started to melt
She actually loved him he didn’t know it
He knew in the end that he would blow it
