Your Crown is Wearing Thin

I’ve never bowed in your presence
Never curtseyed on demand
I’d feel nothing in essence
If you offered me your hand
I shall turn my back to you
Your servants see this as a sin
But I speak as I see it true
Your Crown is wearing thin
I’ll never address you formally
Or brag that we once met
Your souvenirs won’t set me free
This makes it easier to forget
Do you know who you are
Did you ever know your kin
Did you see a falling star
As your Crown was wearing thin
The audience is old and grey
Your words no longer stick
See the people walking away
They are tired of that trick
Wealth does not buy you fame
Just friends that make it cheap
Everything you do is done in vain
Your decline is sinking deep
This is the place you now dwell
Reduced to a painted grin
No one really knew you well
Your Crown is wearing thin

Such clever and excellent
Such clever and excellent rhymes in this! A very east piece to relate to. Marvellous work!

I thinks there's a Bob Dylan
I thinks there's a Bob Dylan style and atmosphere to this. Ready images, a feel of personal involvement, unspecific detail - we read in as we please. I like it! Elsie
