I turn back

Winter’s wisteria
More dead than
anything or anyone
Yet an ever more
quietly whispered vow of
renewal
from a warmth
that simply cannot
have happened
Shears in hand
I approach the
gnarled limb
adorning our
door like
death
I imagine the struggle
The blunt blades
through calloused wood
The papery branch
falling at my feet
Promise extinguished

But your words have it. The inevitable disappointment. Poor wisteria!

A timely reminder that I need
A timely reminder that I need to do the January trim on my own inherited wisteria. They do look more dead than anything but now is the time and they are a force to be reckoned with, even in this dormant state, twisting and shooting all over the place.
