First love

She'd never seen him before, he must have been new here. Chloe had been going to the same bar after work every Friday for the last three and a half years. She thought she had seen everybody that would ever go there and she was very comfortable with that. But she could feel herself tensing up and her heart beat a little faster. She was now very aware of her outfit choice, a crumpled pencil skirt that she didn't have time to iron, a fitted white shirt that her cat had decided to sleep on the night before and a pair of soggy boots after they had been drenched in a puddle during her dash to get get lunch. Yes, it was safe to say that Chloe was feeling completely unprepared for this encounter.
"Keep calm." She said to herself as she approached the bar to order a round of drinks for her friends.
"Are you alright, Chlo? Something bothering you?" Asked the barman, looking concerned.
"Oh yeah I'm fine thanks Steve, just been a long day that's all." She laughed off the question but Chloe's heart was really racing now, she was obviously appearing nervous which made her even more self conscious. She forced a smile at Steve and concentrated on the many bottles behind the bar as she noticed out of the corner of her eye that he was walking towards her.
"Keep calm, you can do this." She repeated to herself as she took a deep breath and turned towards him.
"Hi Chloe." He said locking his eyes on her. She felt her strong facade completely diminish as her legs turned to jelly and her palms begin to moisten.
"Hi Josh. How are you doing? You don't usually come here do you?" She tried to act casual, but she didn't care to know how he was doing at all. After not seeing him for almost five years, she was quite certain that he had indeed fallen off the planet as she had hoped, which is why this meeting was so surprising to her. She could feel her face becoming hot as she tucked her blonde tossled hair behind her ears, something she always did when she was nervous.
“I'm very well thank you. The guys from work fancied somewhere different so we came here. Do you come here a lot then?” He said as he ran his hand down his long blue tie. His eyes were still dazzlingly blue. His hair was longer than she remembered and his face had lost its puppy fat and was now more chisled looking with five o'clock stubble starting to appear. This made Chloe realise how much things had changed since they had last seen eachother. They weren't teenagers anymore; they had grown up.
“Yeh, we come here every week actually.” She was desperately trying to think of something interesting to say, there were so many things she wanted to ask him and tell him, but her thoughts were becoming muddled as she could feel her heart pounding against her chest.
“Oh really, do you work around here then?” He spoke louder as it was now nine o'clock and the bar lights reduced and loud music started playing to make more of a club feel. He leaned in closer to her so that their cheeks were almost touching. Chloe could feel the warmth of his breath on her neck and it made her whole body tingle and shiver.
“Yeh, I left Smith-Williamson and joined Berrymans, which is just round the corner from here so it's easy. Where are you working now then?” She pulled back and took a gulp of her double Vodka and Coke that she ordered to calm her, but it still wasn't nearly as alcoholic as she needed at that moment.
“Why are you taking so long babe?” Said a woman appearing from the crowd. She was stunningly beautiful, of course she was going to be. The mysterious woman was wearing a low cut, fitted, knee length dress with matching red lipstick and shoes. Chloe looked back down at her grubby boots and sighed to herself.
'Her boobs are smaller than mine though, he was always a boob guy so she's not completely perfect' Chloe thought as she looked back down at her drink after realising she had been obviously staring at her breasts for a pervertedly long time.
“Oh sorry baby! Chloe, I'd like you to meet my girlfriend Sasha.” He said, putting his arm around her slender waist. For the first time, Josh looked slightly awkward.
“Hi Sasha, I'm Chloe. I'm an old friend of Josh's.”
“We're about to die of thirst over there!” shouted a voice from behind her. Chloe was relieved to hear that it was her work colleague.
“Oh sorry Josh, I'd better go. It was nice seeing you and meeting you Sasha!” And with that Chloe took the drinks as fast as she could carry them, even though her legs felt as if they were about to crumble beneath her. She fell into a heap as she greeted her friends at the table.
“Who was that, Chlo?”
“Nobody interesting.” Chloe replied. “Only the love of my life” she muttered into her drink.
