IMS, REM:
Artemis was the star of a party held in her glorious name... in Club Ecstasy. She was very happy. She had fulfilled her mission.
"Artemis, let me take you through the road from which you cannot turn back. Here is Belladona, feared for her faultless eyes. She never misses. Now there is Aphrodite, dancing with Roman Lee. They will accompany you on your next flight."
"I assume i need no introduction. Are you relaxed?"
"Mr. Nickolson, may I have this dance?"
Artemis danced with Jack and he was a crazy dancer. She liked that and was having a great time. She did not see the jealousy that she inspired. She had no self-consciousness and assumed that everyone was minding their own business.
She liked Jack although he was much older and they had a nice conversation about Picasso and Roman. Jack didn't think he was worth a nickel. But her eyes turned back to Steve who was sleeping in a corner of the club. David Blaine joined the dance and they all danced and Jack was being hilarious and she understood his genius. She had really enjoyed watching the Shining in the boondocks of New Hampshire.
Now she thought of her father and how proud he would be of her and she wished that he was there except that there was an emptiness in her heart which could not be filled.
"Who do you want?" she heard Steve say, "You can have anyone in the room. You are a man, now."
She didn't want anyone. She only knew when she was wanted, and no human pleased her.
She danced the night away and Jack and David were very, very funny. She was having a grand, old time and she forgot everything in the hub of oblivion, blowing her mind away. She inhaled the cocaine and she felt higher and mightier than anyone. It was a pure, white feeling, elevating her mood to the hilt of her pride. She felt druggily superior. Her eyes became sharp and condescending. She coldly regarded those around her.
