Kim Jung-Un 1

My writing is always influenced by what I read on the web. I am sorry if I do not quote all the sources. I will try to quote when I can.
The first thing I want to say is that Koreans want to be themselves. In the history of Korea, the Chinese have, at one time, tried to convince Koreans that everything that is worthwhile in Korean culture comes from a Chinese Origin. The Japanese, during the time of colonization, basically tried to make Koreans into a lower class of Japanese.
Within the context of speaking about a country stuck between Japan and China, one can understand why Korean identity is so important to both South and North Korea. But within North Koreans, the idea of a fixed Korean identity, is intensely central to their being.
The idea that occupies the central place of North Korean identity is "Juche" translated as "self-reliance." Is Juche possible in the interconnected, modern world? NO, it is not.
Kim Jung-Un is a master manipulator of the concept of "Juche." North Korean economy is not in any way a "self-reliant" market. Many millions of people in North Korea are starving. Many people do not have electricity. But South Korea is scared to death of a possible civil war happening in North Korea. Since China will not take in any refugees from North Korea if a war happens, all the refugees will flow to South Korea. Since South Korea does not want to face such an emergency crisis, they send food-aid money to North Korea. Kim Jong Un uses some of this money to feed his large military, some of it to develop his military program, and some of it to provide food for the people who are loyal to him. It is not just South Korea who has given money to North Korea to prevent a possible collapse of North Korea. In the past, it has been the UN and the United States also.
Another way Kim Jong-Un sustains a twisted "Juche" is by counterfeiting and smuggling. The United States doesn't even mention this issue when it goes to the bargaining table.
It's weird how the powerful countries like the United States and South Korea let rogue states like North Korea win.
North Korea helped Syria develop nuclear reactors and help Iran with its nuclear program.
Again, little or no criticism. We are basically letting countries like North Korea win because we are afraid. We are letting fear win. We are letting these rogue dictators like KIm Jung Un win. And what happens when we let rogue dictators become "self-reliant" in an evil, twisted way?

I guess loads of individuals
I guess loads of individuals foolishly tend to try to be 'juche'. I hadn't heard the word before.
What a responsibility there is on leaders to care for their people. Skimming off of aid seems to happen in many places sadly. Rhiannon
