The Path of Life

When ‘Life’ falls upon you with a two edged sword
And plunges deep, and twists, within you
And life drains from the vessel that houses your soul
Can you hear, can you see, can you listen, to a word
Of comfort, in the chalice of your mind?
When the edges cut so deep, there is nowhere
To be found, strength, or an inner peace.
When mere mortals, such as we, cannot define
Where to go to, or where to run,
In the very corners of our mind
When sorrow, and hurt, and pain combine
To dwell within our hearts, and souls,
And peace comes in snatches of sleep…
Only to find,
With the wakening eye, the terror again
Released, unto us for the day ahead
With thoughts, with worry, with dread
When smiles, are false, and laughter leaves us
When the sun shines and blue skies appear
Overhead, but neither the rainbow, nor the
Weeping willow, convey, our mood
‘Life’, in all its awesome ways, is misconstrued,
Contorted, complex, distorted, and out of view
With no focus, no image, of what lies ahead
And we are subdued, living, breathing,
Sleeping, not eating, dying a little inside
When a thought beckons us forward, and we
Take the chance, to leave behind
The sorrows of the past, when birdsong once again
Is heard, and scents of flowers fill our nostrils,
And laughter, drowns out the tears
It has taken time, in months or years
But we have lived, a hero’s life, been strong and brave
And sacrificed, some sanity along the path of ‘Life’
