Now its the past

oh long ago the streets that we all knew
where everyone knew each other
and was there to lend a hand
but now it has all gone
and
people walk by and don't say hi to you
remember those times with mothers on their knees
cleaning their doorsteps being so house proud
now all the doorsteps are dirty
oh what happened to the time
when everyone cares
oh look at me and I look at you
things that we remember
what we went through
oh time goes so fast you see
one moment its the future
now its the past
remember when
the milkman
used to call
and on
a frosty morning
with fog in the air
you could see
the cream pushes up
to the top of the bottle
and
you get the Cole man
carrying those heavy sacks
on his back
full of dust and dirty
always smiling back
oh look at me and I look at you
things that we remember
what we went through
oh time goes so fast you see
one moment its the future
now its the past
oh the long hot summers water fights
playing hotscots and rounders
but we just live our lives
and somehow were we made it through
children playing in the street
kicking ball around
police on their rounds
men on bikes cycling along
two by two there road
on their way home
ice cream vans ringing out
99 in hands
but if I close my eyes I can still see it now
and if there was a time machine
i like to go back and have a look now
