I Am You

Inside we are all the same
Outside we wear the same skin
I know you have felt sadness I feel it too
Yet our differences separate us
They distance us from each other
Cultures and learning we could be so much more
When building bridges instead of war
We all have a history
We have all lost something
We are not that different you and me
We both have eyes, hair and feet
Our lungs breathe the same polluted air
The world is full of difference
But one thing will always be true
We are no more different than me and you
If there is to be a brighter future for us both
Then we must stretch our voices and the written word
To reach the others who also observe
That the differences between us
Are not that different at all.
