The wizard looked at the egg in his hand. He held it up to the light between his thumb and forefinger and inspected it. It looked fine. It was the only edible thing he had in his entire cottage. It was going to be delicious he thought to himself. He smiled and put a put a small pot on the stove and filled it with water.
When the water started to simmer, he added the egg and waited. He timed the duration of cooking the egg with his egg timer on the shelf. Slowly the sand sifted though the glass as the egg boiled away furiously on the stove. Three minutes, he thought to himself. He liked soft-boiled eggs. Three minutes. And still the sand spilled through the egg timer, and still the egg boiled away.
When the egg was ready, he took it off the stove and out of the pot. He put it in a small egg-holder and seated himself at the small wooden table. Next he took a small teaspoon, and cracked the egg’s shell a bit on the top. He removed the broken pieces of shell and commenced eating the egg though this hole with his small teaspoon. He added salt and pepper to his taste as he ate.
‘Delicious’ he said to himself. No wonder they called him a wizard.
