The music blasted through the night as Kevin cranked the volume of the radio to full blast.
"Yeah!" He shouted over the music. "Now this is a party!"
I laughed and took a look at the other kids dancing on beach. Everyone was having a great time. Some were taking a swim in the cool water, and most were staying on dry land.
This was a pretty great party. I was surprised that mom and dad had actually let me come. Well it was mostly dad's idea. He wanted me to have fun but also see how responsible I could be. Mom had finally agreed when I told her that two adults would be chaperoning the party. But I didn't tell her the adults would only be twenty-one and twenty-two.
Lucky me. Oh and did I mention the party was being held on an island that was a few miles from my home.
Henry Thompson, the wealthiest guy at my school, had been the one to plan the party. He was a new student, only been there for about a month. He said that his parents were allowing him to use their spring vacation home on the island. They have to be the most awesome parents ever. But also pretty careless... If this party got out of hand, who knows what can happen to their house.
I glanced over at one of the boats in the water and saw Henry climbing off it. He waved to someone on the beach and then headed over to Kevin.
I have to admit that I was surprised when Henry had handed me a flyer in the hall to come to his party. We barely even said two words to each other back at school. But I guess he just needed plenty of people to show up... or something.
But I don't believe that because there were only about thirty teens and two adults.
I sighed and leaned back in the beach chair I was lying on. This had to be the greatest vacation I had ever taken. I wish that it would last a little more than just one weekend.
But today was Friday, so Saturday and Sunday will be the days when we party as much as possible.
"Hey," Brandy, my girlfriend, whispered into my ear as she stooped beside the seat.
"Hey, babe," I sat up and gave her a kiss. "Where have you been?"
"In the house with Lilly and Jack," She said. "Why won't you come in with us?"
I shook my head. "No, it feels so good out here. I just want to enjoy this breeze. Why don't you stay out here with me?"
I reached up and pulled her down onto me as she laughed. "No. I promised them I would be back."
I shrugged as I gazed up into her beautiful dark blue eyes, the same color as the sky tonight. Her long brown hair fell over my face and I reached up and brushed it back.
"They can wait." I said softly as I kissed her again. Her lips were so soft and warm. I wrapped my arms around her and drew her closer. I could do this during the whole vacation.
Her warm body pressed harder against mine and as she leaned in for more of the kiss. I carressed her back gently with my hands and...
That's when the jerk, Mike, came over.
"Whoa!" He cried and Brandy pulled away from me. "Too much of that is bad for you guys. We don't want to come back home with an increased population."
Brandy giggled but I just scowled. He and Brandy used to date a few months ago, but it was nothing too serious. But I noticed that he seems to interrupt us a lot, even in school. We could be studying, talking, or kissing and he would come by and break things up.
"Hey, Mike." I said finally forcing a smile to my face. "There wouldn't be an increased population over just two days... Aren't you here with Kelly?"
He shrugged. "So you two having a nice time so far?"
There goes his other annoying habit. Ignoring me when I asked him any questions. Especially about the new girl he was dating, Kelly.
"Trying to." I answered and he laughed.
"My bad, bro," He said. "Didn't mean to interrupt things. I'm going to head back over with the others. Catch you guys later."
"See ya," I said as he walked away. "Jerk."
Brandy snickered. "That was mean."
"Yeah I know." I said shaking my head. "He always does that."
I leaned in to kiss her but she backed away and sat up on the edge of the chair.
"I was talking about you." She said. "You don't have to keep forcing him to go away everytime he says anything to you."
"I know," I said as I got up and sat beside her. "But it's easier that way."
Suddenly the music stopped and a few people groaned.
I looked over at the radio and saw that Kevin had stopped the music. Henry was standing on top of a beach chair waving a megaphone above his head to get everyone's attention. The chaperones were right beside him on the sand.
"Now that I have your attention, I just wanted everyone to know that I want you all to have a great time." He said into the megaphone. "I know that I invited a few people that I never even talk to, but that's just because from my point of view, you seem pretty cool. And I do want to get to know you later. So anyway, to wrap things up... Let's party!"
Kevin cranked the music back up to full blast again and everyone cheered. I stood up and grabbed Brandy's hand and we stood up. I put an arm around her shoulders.
"Come on. We can go see Lily and Jack." I said as we began to head to the house.
Then I noticed Henry heading over to us.
I nodded at him. "Thanks for inviting us to this party." I said to him.
He reached out a hand and I shook it. "No problem, I'm just grateful you were able to come." He said with a smile. He turned to Brandy. "And you're Brandy right?"
She nodded and shook his hand. "Yes, and thanks again for inviting us to the party. I'm definitely having a great time."
He nodded. "No problem. If you two need anything at all, just let me know and I'll take care of it."
"Sure thing." I said and he turned to head over to the other kids.
"That was nice of him." Brandy commented. "He's being a great host."
"Indeed." I said, imitating the wealthy people that I see on movies.
Brandy laughed and we continued to head up to the house.
When we entered we saw Jack and Lily making out in the living room on the couch. Lily was running her hands through his longish blond hair as he held her by the hips kissing her with his eyes shut tight.
I cleared my throat and they pulled away from each other.
"What's up, Matt?" Jack said, staring straight ahead at the wall.
Lily ran a hand through her white-blond hair and looked down into her lap.
"Seems to be you two," I said with a chuckle. "I was just out enjoying the breeze but Brandy wanted to come in here so we can interrupt you guys."
"We weren't doing anything..." Lily said blushing as she kept her eyes lowered.
Lily and Jack had broken up about a couple months ago but said they would still remain friends. But I guess tonight they were more than that. Or maybe they have been for a while, but it had been kept in secrecy.
"That's some party outside." I said, deciding to change the subject. "Henry really helped me out with this. I needed a weekend from home."
"Me too." Brandy went over to the other couch across the room and sat down. "We all did."
"You know, between all of us... I wasn't even invited," Jack said shaking his head.
I laughed. "What? Are you serious?"
"I'm serious." He said leaning forward and propping his elbows on his knees. "I just came along cause I... was gonna tell him that you brought me along."
"Well consider this a favor that I'm doing for you." I said as I begin to examine the room. "So you owe me."
There was a fireplace right across from where Lily and Jack were seated. Too bad it was too warm to actually use it.
"It would be so awesome if there was a TV there." Jack said as he stood up. He crossed the room and went over to the window near the front door.
"Yeah, that would be awesome." I said.
Lily and Brandy began to chat amongst themselves so I headed over to Jack.
He was gazing out at everyone on the beach biting his lip. He seemed to be deep in thought.
"You okay?" I asked as I studied him. His dark eyes not moving from the beach. "We didn't interrupt anything did we?"
Jack finally turned to me with a scowl as I smirked at him. "You know you did. But I'm not bothered or anything. It just sort of happened. You know..."
I shook my head. "No I don't. But okay. How did it happen? She fell onto you... and her tongue fell down your throat..."
He shook his head. "You must've been watching, huh?"
We both laughed and he turned his gaze back to the beach. Then he squinted his eyes.
I followed his gaze and realized he wasn't gazing at the beach. He was looking at something else. Something that was approaching the beach. It was a ship.
"Where the hell is that coming from?" I asked.
"Maybe they're making a delivery to Henry." Jack said. I thought I heard some bitterness when he mentioned Henry's name.
I turned to him as he glanced back at Lily. "Don't worry, he just forgot to invite you. That's all."
"Nope." Jack said as he shook his head. "He did it intentionally."
I saw the anger in my friends eyes. Something else was bothering him.
"What makes you say that?" I asked as I took a glance at the ship that wasn't too far from the beach now.
"He's been flirting with Lily." Jack said. "I always saw him talking to her in class. He knew she was my... ex-girlfriend. So he didn't invite me because he thought I would get in the way. I think he likes blondes."
I looked at him and frowned. "Well that would make him interested in you?"
He laughed. "Not me, jack ass. Lily."
I turned back to the beach. "Lily's not really blond. She's more of a white-haired... close to blond.... yeah I guess she's blonde."
Jake sighed and shook his head. He went back over to Lily and slumped down on the couch beside her.
I guess it must've bothered him that Henry wanted to get with Lily. Especially if Jack still might have some feelings for her.
I went across the room and took a look in the big mirror hanging on the wall. I smoothed my dark spiky hair into place and checked out my gray eyes to make sure they weren't bloodshot. I only had two drinks earlier on the beach so I guess I couldn't get drunk that fast.
Suddenly I heard screams coming from outside.
Jack snickered. "What's going on now?"
I shrugged and started to go over to the window. But then the door flew open.
A tall burly man stood in the doorway. He was partly hidden in shadows but I could see the scowl on his scarred face. His hair was wild and the plaid shirt he wore was pretty filthy. But what I really noticed was a pretty big shotgun in his hands... and it was pointed straight at my chest.
