The Guru

Steve remembered the Guru’s advice: “Push a door with your little finger. There is no need to shove with all your might, if the door wants to open it will open.”
He’d taken the advice on board. He didn’t shove mindlessly at every door life placed in front of him, he looked for opening, opportunities, doors there waiting to fall open at the barest hint of a nudge.
The policy had served him well. He rose to the top of his profession, and was still a relatively young man when he found himself running his own company with 593 staff under him.
And now the Guru was here, sitting outside his office, hoping for a job in his company.
He would get it, of course. Steve was determined to return the Guru’s kindness and wisdom in any way he could. He only kept him waiting because he was nervous, unsure what to say. He prepared his opening welcome a dozen times before he was ready.
“Come in,” he said.
Silence.
“Come in,” he called, louder this time.
There was more silence.
“Come in,” he shouted this time.
The only response was the sort of silence you might associate with a door being pushed softly and ineffectively by a solitary little finger.
“Oh for goodness sake, just push the bloody door.”

This made me laugh.
This made me laugh. Simultaneously wide open to the possibilities of the universe and quite cynical of them!
