Kit Handsome and the busy day at the Big Hotel 1

“Morning Kit,” said Megson, “I like the cycle gear, Sally’s trying to get you fit again?”

Boonhill was a small island, and although Kit Handsome tried to keep his personal life a secret, you could never hide anything from anyone, let alone his desk sergeant, Megson.

“She bought me a bike for my birthday. Anything in?”   

“There’s a man complaining he’s being followed around by a penguin, Mrs Wemborne claims her tortoise has turned invisible and we’ve got Superduck in the cells for stealing toilet duck.”

“Sounds like you’ve had a busy morning,” said Kit.

“It’ll go crazy later. We’ve got that Potato Marketing Board conference at the Big Hotel, that’s always a complete riot.”

“I’ll have a word with Superduck.”

“I’d leave him if I were you, let him sleep off the toilet duck.”

“You mean he’s actually been drinking it?”

“It’s got 0.3% alcohol content. God knows how much he must have drunk, he’s been spewing bluey foam all night. His piss is going to be giving the toilet a shimmering sheen for months to come. You’d better go and see about this penguin. That’s at the Big Hotel as well, a Mr Griffiths phoned this morning, say’s it’s been following him around for days.”

“Let Harkaway go,” said Kit. “It’ll be good experience for him. I’ll cycle down to Mrs Wemborne.”
