Dreams pursued on Saturday night,
on pre-packed, bite-sized TV Lite.
Forget the honing of expertise,
by-pass the years of groundwork.
Go straight to the top with ease,
zero to hero in one giant leap.
Become top of the heap,
despite the lack of mastery,
of any discernible artistry.
Turn tricks, pass the test
and stand out from the rest.
Play up to the public’s predilections,
avoid the weekly round of evictions.
Winning the prize is the name of the game,
so forget about being sincere.
No pain, no gain, no shame.
Nice just doesn’t cut it here.
In this dawn of the age of the sybarite,
witness the rise of the great yahoo.
It seems that Andy was right,
and that any dream will do.

I reckon you've summed it up
I reckon you've summed it up accurately. I'm reminded of the comedy sketch where the wannabe X-factor contestant said she sung her heart and soul out and couldn't do any more than that. 'Well yes you could,' the stone faced compere replied. 'You could have learned how to sing.'
