The Sky to be Born (Sean Elyot)

I followed fading footsteps in the dunes of sands arcane
A vagabond once told me they lead to the shores of Spain
And though the tide was rising, I forged on with disdain
For time's petty mistress and her relentless reign
And the moonlight willow loves a moonlight meadow
As they wait for the sky to be born
I heard the ocean's murmur calling me by name
I heard the seagull's warning but followed all the same
I loved a care-free woman, she begged me to explain
I said "I heard the cliff-top breezes tell me that I'm sane"
Her laughter was the moonshine I drank like a summer wine
As we waited for the sky to be born
I felt the harpy's lullaby intoxicate my brain
And swam out 'neath the moonlight till retreating was in vain
I heard a thousand sailors sigh an old refrain
With the moon as my widow let these depths take my remains
In the sleepless tomb of the ocean's womb
I waited for the sky to be born
