"Seems how you're a bigger guy I was going to have you stay here to protect this group. I was going to take Tamera with me down to the basement seems how she knows where the power source is, so we can see if we can get the power back on. Jeff I want you to go up on the floors with Kyla and see if you can find any flashlights, or anything like that."
"Well, it's like I said, the Sheriff's office is in the building. So I'm sure there's some sort of firearm in here." Tamera said.
"Alright. We'll all meet here in about twenty minutes or so. If you aren't back here in twenty minutes I will personally come and find you."
With it being so dark I could barely manage to tell if everyone in the group that volunteered nodded. But I got the feeling that they all understood very well. Everyone else broke away from the group, going to do everything they were assigned to do.
"Lead the way and I'll follow." I told Tamera. It wasn't hard for me to follow her even if she did get to far away from me, considering she was wearing high heels. She led me to the door that went to the basement. But before we opened it to go down the stairs the whole building started shaking horribly again…only this time it didn't stop.
"Shit!" I yelled out, grabbing Tamera's hand and pulling her out of the way of the stairwell," Quick everyone get to the basement!" I watched people quickly get up and run over to where I was. Luckily the other group that left didn't make it too far. They were close enough to hear my yells. I held the door open, making sure that everyone managed to get in through the stairwell. I counted everyone besides…
"Dave!" I yelled, running over to him still sitting on the floor, rocking back and forth.
"What are you doing the whole place is coming down. We got to get to the basement if we want to survive."
"See...I told you they were here."
"You need to get up if you want to live!" I said grabbing him by his shoulders, trying to lift him, but he started shaking like someone having a seizure," What're you doing you need to hold still so I can get you to safety!"
"Leave me here! I'm as a good as dead anyways with this gash on my head!"
"Damn it! Get your ass up!" I gave him another forceful tug, yanking him up to his feet. He proceeded to fall right back down, but I quickly dragged him to the stairs, shutting the door behind me. As soon as we entered the door the building started to shake more, from the bottom of the staircase someone let out a blood-curling scream, and as they did the building shook so hard it caused me to lose my balance. I tumbled down the staircase loosing conscience as soon as I hit the bottom.
I awoke with everyone standing in a circle around me. As I slowly regained conscience I started to make out faces. The first face I saw was Tamera's. My head was propped up off the ground by her legs.
"What happened?" I asked.
"The shaking from the building tumbled you off the stair well down to the bottom." Tamera said.
"Honestly, you're lucky that you didn't bust your damn head open." Ben said.
I quickly sat up from the group," Where Dave is he alright?"
"He's still sitting up on the stair well." I quickly broke apart from the circle and ran up the stair well, meeting back up with Dave.
"Glad to see that you're okay." I placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Get your hand off of me. It's not going to comfort me from this."
"What is your problem anyways? You should be happy that you're alive."
"How can I be. I'm stuck in a federal building…Not that it matters anyways. We're all going to die."
"Why the hell do you keep saying that!?"
"It's true!" Dave yelled, standing up, dropping the jacket from his wounded head. He had to use the wall to support himself," What the hell do you think this is anyways!?"
I pushed Dave up against the wall," Okay look I've tried to be nice to you and it just doesn't seem to be working. So now I'm going to try a different approach. First off I don't need any more panic in the group. So you need to keep your fucking voice down." I pointed my finger in his face," You want to know what the hell I think this is? I'll tell you it's simple. This is just a really bad storm that hit the building and high winds picked up that car. Now, even if we are stuck underneath this building at least we're alive. But as of right now I don't know the situation of the building. Even if we are stuck down here from the earthquake or whatever the hell it is, I'm sure the Government is going to send out help for us."
Dave shook his head chuckling," You just don't understand do you?"
"I understand that you're being a stubborn asshole. Look that's fine. I don't want to be stuck in this building any more than you do, but I'm not being a complete ass about it. The way I look at it you got two options. One you can stay up here and shut the fuck up and leave the group alone, or you can decide you want to quit mopping and help us out…I'll leave that choice up to you."
Not waiting for Dave to answer me I went back downstairs with the group.
"What's our situation?" Jeff asked.
"I didn't get the chance to look outside. I just confronted Dave about some issues that are going on with him. Kyla where is that power box?"
"It should be over in the left hand corner."
"Okay here's the plan everyone so listen up. We need to figure out if we're trapped under
here or not and if we are, then as bad as I hate to say it the only thing we're going to be able to do is wait it out. If we're not then we continue with the plan. Either way I'm sure the Government, or our mayor is sending out reinforcements to help us. So here's what we're going to do. Jeff you and I are going to go upstairs and see if we can get the door open to look at our situation. Tamera, do you by any chance have a flashlight application on your phone?"
"Yeah, I think so. Hold on let me check." She pulled her phone out from her pocket, flipping through the apps to see if she had a flashlight application.
"If you have it Jeff and I are going to need it.”
"Sorry guys but it doesn't look like I have one. I thought I did, but I guess I didn't."
"Alright. Jeff lets go."
Jeff and I quickly headed up the stairwell to the door. When we made it to the top we noticed Dave sitting on the left hand side of the doorway.
"Don't pay any attention to him we got to try and get this door opened."
"It's no use. The building has collapsed on us. You guys are never going to get out of here. We're all going to die here."
"Dave what the fuck did I tell you before!?" I yelled giving one kick to the door.
"Rob...It didn't budge."
"That was just the first kick. Maybe if we both try we can both knock this thing down! Let’s go!"
"It's no use. You guys aren't going to be able to kick down that bloody door!" Dave yelled.
Jeff and I both Ignored Dave's yells and continued to kick at the door. It seems like it took nearly fifteen minutes before we both ran out of air.
"I got to say you don't look it. But you're in fairly decent shape aren't you?" I gasped for air, asking Jeff.
"Not nearly as in shape as you are,” Jeff replied.
I smiled," Let's give it another go shall we?"
Jeff nodded at me and we started to kick at the door once again.
"Oh my God are you serious!" Dave yelled standing up," When are you two dumbasses going to learn this isn't going to work! We're trapped down here and you should just get over it."
I stopped kicking the door and grabbed Dave, throwing him up against the wall.
"What did I tell you earlier?!"
"I'm not about to sit back and let you two idiots annoy the hell out of me, with this noise."
"Then get your ass downstairs. We don't need this right now. So sit down, shut up, or I'm going to make you shut up! Are we clear here?"
"Get your hands off of me!"
"Not until you decide to shut up."
Dave stared at me not saying anything.
"Are we clear here!?" I yelled at him, again.
"I don't have to answer to you or anyone else. I don't have take this shit either. So you either get your hands off of me or-"
"Or what? What are you going to do? Are you forgetting about the gash on the side of your head? All I would have to do is hit you there to knock you out and you know it’s true. So please I'm going to ask you again…Sit down, shut up, or help us." I said letting go of Dave and bringing my attention to Jeff," Now, that that's taken care of let’s give this thing four more kicks and four shoulder smashes. Let’s hope and pray it works. If it doesn't then were screwed."
Jeff and I continued to kick at the door, after the third kick the door started to move a little bit.
"Rob did you see that!?"
"Just a few more kicks!" I yelled, kicking at the door even harder this time. The door moved a little more with each kick. Finally, when I thought it was loose enough I held my hand out in front of Jeff," Stop I'm going to try something." I backed up away from the door," You might want to step away from the door."
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to see if I can't open it by running into it."
"Are you nuts! You just fell off the staircase and hit your head. You could really hurt yourself."
“That’s the risk I'm willing to take. Now stand aside."
Jeff didn't argue with me anymore. He stood over on the side where Dave was sitting. I went down a few steps and started taking off running. When I hit the last stair before the door I jumped at the door, throwing all my weight into it, jumping through the door. I fell to the ground with the door. I shook my head to make sure that I was still conscience.
"Are you alright?" Jeff asked, running up to me.
"Yeah. I'm just a little bit sore is all." I stood up holding my shoulder," I guess it could have been way worse then what it was."
"Rob...look." Jeff pointed out to the open area of the building.
"What...The...Hell." We both looked out toward the build and was surprised to see that the building wasn't touched.
"How can this be...The door was..."
"Yeah I know the door was locked!" I yelled out of frustration at Jeff.
"What the hell do we do now?" Jeff asked.
"Hahaha. You still don't get it do you?" Dave chuckled stepping out of the door," Do you still think this was done by some sort of storm?" He asked stepping out of the stairwell, and as he did the others from the group followed him. I could tell from the look on their faces that they felt the same way we did.
"I guess we continue with our plan…Kyla did you try to flip the power switch?"
"When I heard the door open I went to look…None of them were touched."
"Okay…This is getting weird. We need to find a radio and some light sources. So let’s stick to the original plan. Ben you stay down here and protect the group and if Dave starts up you have permission to knock him out. Jeff and I are going to upstairs to check the other rooms for some light sources and a radio…And hopefully a gun."
Ben nodded in agreement, but before we could take off running the building started to shake again. But this time the front doors of the lobby were ripped off its hinges. Everyone screamed at the being that stood before them…It didn't have any solid form and you couldn't make out any physical facial descriptions. It just looked like a shadow person standing the doorway, where the doors use to be. Everyone was to in shock to say anything…Then just out of nowhere the thing just disappeared. It seemed like it was almost a minute before anyone said anything, so I decided to say something.
"I think it's probably best if we get back down in the basement. I think we'll be safe there."
"Oh fuck that!" Ben yelled," I'm done taking orders from you! You've almost gotten us killed multiple ti-" Ben was cut off by Tamera letting out a blood curling scream…I looked up to see Jeff floating in mid-air.
"Help!" He called out. I quickly ran over to him to grab his leg, to try to pull him down, but as I tugged on his leg he wouldn’t come down. He flew up in the air his head hitting the ceiling and exploding like it was a balloon filled with helium. Jeff's blood got all over Tamera and me
"What the fuck is going on!" Ben yelled out," I'm getting out of here now!" Ben took off running, as well as everyone else and as we did it the building was being evaporated by something. This time I just grabbed Tamera's hand and took off running up the stairs to the other rooms, Before we made it up the stairs I heard Dave laughing once, again…It didn't last very long. His laughing was quickly interrupted…I could only guess what had happened to him, but the sounds I heard, and his screams I could take a guess what was done to him. We all took different floors when we hit the staircase. Tamera and I stuck together. We ran to the very top of the stairwell and into the first room after we exited the corridor.
