The Wedding
We have been invited to a wedding although it feels like a death sentence,
All of a sudden the day arrives we panic who should drive,
A Tornado of thoughts tear up the whole house,
What happens if the place is an absolute dive?
The Grim Reaper taps at the clock,
What should we wear?
All the mirrors seem like mirrors in a circus or a fair,
If what I put on will cause a scare?
A Hurricane of insecurities rips apart the contents of my wardrobe,
I have put a bit of weight on my hips and my belly,
The Clock Chimes and the rabbit runs down the hole,
Will the dress I wear make me look like a big bowl of jelly,
A flood of thoughts makes my face seem sour,
Will the guests recoil in a look of fright,
A wave engulfs me into a pessimistic shower,
Pretty much for the majority of the night,
Tick tock tick tock tick tock
At my dress that looks uncomfortably tight,
An earthquake of inconveniences shakes my world on this very day,
My boyfriend has just realised he will miss the football game,
And says to me “Oh no what a shame”
My reply is “yes for you to miss the game!!”
He looks at me full of cheek,
I reply “We have been planning this all week!!”
Both of us feel sad and annoyed that we have to go,
To this performance to this show,
The groom has been cheating on the bride,
A fact we all must hide,
We all need to paint on our faces and take our roles,
We all have our own parts to play,
Are on scripted lines to say,
But I just keep thinking this is going to take up most of our day,
I know I am being selfish and a bad friend,
I’m sure it will all be fine in the end,
Its only one day,
And it’s not all about me or us,
I don’t know why I’m causing such a fuss,
This poor couple has not had much luck,
Sometimes being a good friend can really suck.
