In a prison of my own making,
Yours was the voice whispering at the door.
Door cracks, the light shining in. Blinding at first.
It dawned on me that I did not seek you.
And yet, you were there all along.
Your voice, louder.
My hearing, keener.
Finally, I saw, heard, could not deny
Stepping through the door, fully opened.

A powerful image, well described. Have you ever read D.H Lawrence's 'The Rainbow'? There's a gorgeous paragraph about - 'He was the doorway to her, she was the doorway to him'.
