Today I took a leaf from her book.
Turned off the TV, the radio, the phone.
Lay under her throw, reading her books,
And wearing the sweater she bought with her dollars.
Quietly thinking, thinking of her.
The clock she bought in Goodwill on Burnett.
That she thought would look nice in this room.
Has an up tick, then a low tock.
5,000 up ticks, 5,000 low tocks.
Is one for every mile apart.
There’s a soft low hum from somewhere in the kitchen.
In a shroud, of near silence.
In a shroud, of her love.
I’ll never be alone again.
