Place du Pantheon, May 21, 2008, 8.35pm, sat on steps

Lonely idle wanderings abroad,
peace, calm,
jumping the barriers from metro to metro,
RER.
Warm breezes,
crowds,
Paris!
Sunlit steps, the Pantheon,
an English pub - The Bombardier! - showing the last day of sport,
flags red and blue.
The cheer of sunset
splaying a rubicund complexion on the 'place concret',
the green petal foliage draping along corridor labyrinths
that go somewhere or other,
skulking for miles, never leaving the city.
Happenstance I am here amidst this crowd;
too many, they flood to see the last speckles of red,
this deluge of people i watch.
The drink flows,
the lady in the sunglasses knows,
her eyes-lips-skin tasting the last of the sun.
smiles that say 'je te desire',
(all will be well!).
Dress of flower and emerald sparkling -
fantasy flashes by -
the faceless crowd apart from her...
Clinks! bring me from my reverie,
she is gone,
replaced by another, and another,
and again, and again.
When will the sun go down to mark my weariness?
When will this parade end?
Never i hope -
a clink once more!
Laughter - a mixed crowd!
Ecstasy knows no better joys or love than this!
