Broken

I met a heart today, ’twas badly broken,
I watched it bleed, its passion all but spent.
No need for any words, that might be spoken;
Only love could charge a heart such rent.
Uncoordinated, she moved like a Rag doll,
a Marionette but with no strings attached.
Flopping carelessly; I watched her head loll,
the pain she feels, is previously unmatched.
Friends will gather round, to make it better,
they tell her that, it’s all worked out for best.
But nothing that they say, can really let her,
escape the tortured anguish, in her breast.
Platitudes, rebound into the ether,
Calming, well-meant adages, assault.
Can this be all that sad fate, will bequeath her;
some fool, to tell her that, it’s not her fault?
She dared to hold a dream; under the covers,
she longed for more than just a cursory glance.
She watched the music, playing loud for others
and prayed that she would yet, have cause to dance.
And it did play and she did swing in rhythm.
God, it felt so good, so …hand in glove.
But reality soon scuttled her bold theorem;
for, when the music stopped, so did the love.
Time will pass and with it, will come healing…
but that’s a distant sunrise here tonight.
Right now her senses and her mind are reeling
and condolences, are seeming rather trite.
