"All good things come to an end," the detective said and lit a
cigarette. He put the collar of his trenchcoat up and his hands in his
pockets, and started walking. It was a dark and stormy night, the rain
was beating down on his hat and ...
"Bedtime, children," mom said and switched off the radio. "But, mom,"
a chorus of disapproving voices greeted her decision. She cut them off
with a wave of her hand. "That was a silly show you were listening to
anyway, besides, it was over. Now run to bed, all of you!" She bent
down and as her children passed her they one by one planted a quick
kiss on her cheek. "Good night, mom," she heard eight times, and
"Night, Eve," "Night, Ben," and one cheeky, "Good night, John-Boy"
which was received with a hearty round of laughter. She smiled,
straightened her apron and began to tidy up the kitchen.
Melanie hit the button on the remote control, and with a crackle
indicating the age of the TV set the bizarre family disappeared into
darkness. She yawned and stretched, which woke up the cat who had been
sleeping on her lap and prompted him to do the same. Melanie checked
her watch and groaned. "I fell asleep again," she told the cat, and
then, as if she had to justify her tiredness, "it was a very boring
program!" The cat jumped down, meowed and hid under the couch. "What's
the matter?" Melanie asked. Suddenly she heard a creaking sound behind
her and spun around. By the dim light of the table lamp she looked
around. "Hello?" she said. There was no answer. The house was quiet.
Melanie relaxed and began to walk up the stairs when she heard a
scraping sound. It came from the kitchen. Melanie tiptoed down the
stairs again. She could feel her heartbeat, it was so loud she could
almost hear it. Being in this old house all by herself frightened her,
and as she slowly crept toward the kitchen the fear was showing on her
face. She opened the kitchen door.
Frank leant over to Julie. She thought he was going to try and kiss
her again and flinched away, but instead he whispered in her ear. She
could smell his bad breath and winced. "This is a stupid movie," he
whispered. "I didn't choose to watch it," she hissed. He was getting on
her nerves. "Do you want to leave?" he asked. As an answer, Julie stood
up. Frank grabbed his popcorn and soda and stumbled after her down the
aisle. He just had time to witness Melanie being chopped up by a tall
man wearing a mask before he left the cinema. Julie had already crossed
the road when he caught up with her. "What do you want to do now?" he
asked, giving her his most radiant smile. "Actually, I need to go home,
I need to, umm, wash my hair," Julie said. Frank's face fell. "Okay,"
he said and tried to sound cheerful. "Maybe some other time?"
"Oh please," Little Star mumbled. She was tempted to just move on but
she felt rude having read the story this far and not leaving a review.
She checked a box at the bottom - 2.5 stars - and moved the mouse to
the review window. "A strang idea, and very confussing," she typed.
"Did yu rite the story like this because you couldnt finish any of the
idaes you had started, or were you trying to be orijinal? It didn't
work for me, the sotry was lame an boring an not orijinal at all. if
you wnt to be orijinal read some of my storys, they will teech you to
be orijinal." She hesitated for a moment, then changed the rating to 2
stars and checked the anonymous button before she hit "send".
A large, animated foot came down and stomped on Little Star. All that
was left of her were a pair of legs, which continued to struggle while
the end credits were rolling.
