For Daniel And Meghan’s Sake.
We’d been married now for seven years and by the time the children came along the garden had been left and had become totally overgrown! It was a shame really for it was a huge long garden, it was easily big enough to fit three tiny new houses in, and here it was good, healthy land going to waste! I’d asked Paul my Husband many times to cut the lawn, trim the hedge back and generally tidy it up and to be fair to Paul at first he did, but as time went by, the seasons came and went and weeds grew and grew and before we knew it, the garden which had lots of promise and dreams looked like no one lived at the house and no one loved the garden, it was totally overlooked. My job was inside the house, and again to be fair to Paul we both helped out in the house, and we both worked full time, but still no garden should look the way ours did.
There was plenty for our kids to do, we have a large fantastic park two minutes walking distance from our home, and we often in the summers go to the sea side, there were fairs and car boots, I took both kids swimming in our local pool, we always went in the ‘woods’ travelling about twenty miles to this amazing place and there Paul would make a fire, digging a small hole first and putting the grid over it, he’d bring newspapers twist them up and the kids job would be to find dry twigs to put near the fire to keep it going. The frying pan would come out, the lard, then lots of sausages, bacon, eggs and the bread buttered and put onto four plastic plates, yum that can’t be beaten! The trips to the seaside would always be great, lots of fun, lots of sand castles, ice-cream, paddles in the sea looking for creatures and always fish and chips on the way home! They even did a message in a bottle the one year and got a reply!
But back at home the kids would be like little prisoners as they had never been into our garden! Then one day I witnessed something that changed everything and I knew something had to be done! I saw a fly and so did they, they sat on the sofa then knelt to get closer to this strange sight, pointing to it at is zigged and zagged just above them, to them it was the equivalent like a trip to the zoo and it was like they had just seen an elephant close up, for the first time! It was THAT amazing to them!
At the same time that I saw the fly incident I had been reading the book of Nehemiah from the Bible and he faced opposition from those who didn’t want him to rebuild the walls of his City back home, that he had heard had be broken down! For what I planned to do would be no easy feat and there would be STRONG opposition – from Paul I decided to have the garden done in one day! But not just one day but within six hours!!!! While he was at work. Would I be able to pull it off? Well I had to, for Daniel and Meghan’s sake!
