For Daniel And Meghan’s Sake – Part Two.
So I decided to do a garden make over within six hours without telling my Husband Paul and while he was at work, I had mentioned it to him in the past many years ago, a few times, us getting someone in to tidy up the garden, but it was always, “No, we can’t afford it!” But after the ‘fly’ incident, it was a case of needs, must!!
I got my Brother round and Mick who too was good with all round DIY to come and have a look at the garden! To say they were shocked was an understatement! They just couldn’t believe their eyes! I valued their honest opinion and knew they wouldn’t rip me off. I told them I wanted to have everything removed so we could see the ground again, and a small lawn at the bottom and at the side, that I wanted a clothes line, which would be a luxury and the hedges cut right back. I made it clear it had to be done within six hours while Paul was at work and that they would be paid £100 each! They said that four more men would need to be involved, to get it all done in such a short space of time! I told them I didn’t have that kind of money. Mick and my brother Andrew suggested who the other four hard working men should be, all who I knew very well. I said to them both that I would give them their £100 now as agreed and that on the day the other four men would be given £20 each, but that they were not to know about the £100 given to them, they agreed. I told Mick and Andrew that I would provide hot drinks and sandwiches and to let the lads know. We then arranged a day when it would be, it was difficult for we all work different shifts, so some even booked a day’s holiday off work to help me! They said that I would need to order a skip! I asked my lovely next door neighbour with the perfect house and garden if she would have it outside her house, she gladly agreed! It cost £95.00. When the skip arrived next door Paul came in from work and said, “Sophie has a skip outside her house, but what has she got to put in a skip?” I told him, “I didn’t know.” Next I asked the kids grandparents if they would have the children, they said, “Yes.”
Now Paul is like clockwork, he always leaves home the same time in the morning at 05.45am so all knew they had to be at ours at 06.30am no later and not before 06.20am! At 06.25 the grandparents arrived and whisked the kids away. All six young men arrived together at 06.30am. My brother came with hired professional ear muffs and a petrol hedge trimmer, ready for action! All brought their own tools. The other four men had not seen the garden and when they did, besides swearing, they said, “The six of us is not enough, the job can NOT be done with such few people,” they were reassured by Mick and Andrew, who told them, “It could be done and had to be done!!!”
I was nervous but knew it was for a good cause, for Daniel and Meghan’s sake.....
