Fits.

Yesterday I had a lovely day at work, I worked with two lovely people and time went quickly. I planned after work to post my Mum’s birthday gift and card. I’d bought her two specialist teas, one been peppermint. I didn’t have lunch at work as Paul said, “I will do a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings,” When I got home Paul said, “I was sick in the night and didn’t sleep well, I haven’t long got up.” I was hungry and had hoped to eat within the hour.
I said to Paul, “Do you want to cancel cooking the meal today, as I am hungry now and dinner won’t be ready within an hour, so can we have the dinner another day?” Paul said, “I’m still a bit unwell, so I will cook another day.” I replied, “No problem I will go to MacDonald’s and eat there, is that OK?” Paul said, “That’s fine.”
My Mum’s two small packs of tea fitted snugly into a cereal box, I went to my local Tesco and bought a lovely card for my Mum, it was quite big so I made sure it would fit inside the cereal box, I caught an old man looking at me, I took the card back out and as I past him, I said, “Was just making sure it fit,” He smiled. I went to self-service, and told the Staff there, “This is a box for my Mum’s gift, cereal is not inside,” She said, “That is fine,” I paid for my Mum’s card and with my receipt clearly in my hand I went to another section also self-service, where there was no other customers, I opened Mum’s card and wrote in it and put her cheque inside the card and put both into the cereal box, I then sealed the box with Sellotape and taped on the address that I’d already written out. I was pleased with my finished work, but would I now get to the post office before it closed?
I was still in Tesco and just before I was going to exit the building, when someone got my attention, there was a young man standing still, not blinking, he was just like a statue. I looked to see what he could be looking at, for at first I thought he’d seen something that was unbelievable but there was nothing he could be possibly looking at as we were not in the store, he didn’t know I was there looking at him, people were walking past him, I wanted to ask him if he was OK, but I didn’t want to startle him, so I decided to go upstairs to Customer Service and let them know.
I went straight to Customer Service and near the desk there was four security Staff members, I said to them, “There is a young man downstairs, he is smartly dressed, he is standing still like a statute, I think he might be having a fit,” The male security guard said, to me, “He’s took something,” And the others agreed with him, that was the last thing I’d expected, the female security guard said to me, “We’ll go down to him.” It opened my eyes to something I’d never seen before, but they see it all the time.
It really did open my eyes to another world, this young man had just somehow crossed a very busy road, he wasn’t in this world, he was completely out of it. I remember one of the young co-worker, she told me once when she had taken a drug and she was up Town, people looked like monsters, every single one of them, and her own face was see through, it scared her enough to not take that particular type of drug again. I still think he had an absence episode, he could have needed sugar, if he was diabetic, or he could have had a fit. They’re not doctors, they don’t know him. I was in a hurry, so I didn’t know what happened to him, I just hope he was OK. In the state he was in he might even had been robbed as he had nothing with him, no mobile or bag.
I rushed over to the post office with minutes to spare, I sent my Mum’s parcel signed for, like I send every parcel.
I was really hungry now and headed over to one of my favourite places to eat, our new 24 hour MacDonald’s, for a change it wasn’t busy at this time, I had a voucher for £1.99 usually there is a choice of three main burgers but on this voucher there was only one burger, it was for a quarter pounder with cheese with either salad or medium fries, I don’t got to MacDonald’s to be healthy eating and if it’s a choice between yummy fries and salad, there is no competition, it’s fries every time. I love it when they are hot, just out the pan.
I asked for two tomato ketchups to dip each chip in, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a quarter pounder with cheese before so I didn’t really know what to expect, and because it was my dinner, I had with it a yummy hot chocolate drink. I always eat it in the same order and as a take away, so it’s in a bag and not placed wide open on a tray to get cool and for someone to possibly sneeze and ruin my meal, I keep all the food inside the bag and don’t lift the lid of the hot drink so it stays hot. I didn’t even need to add my usual sachet of salt for the fries was lovely and salty and hot, then I opened my quarter pounder with cheese and took a bite, it was very nice indeed, no salad like there is in a Big Mac and it had onions in and gherkins, I was pleasantly surprised, I thought to myself, I’ll definitely have this again instead of a Big Mac, which I’ve had for donkey’s years. When I’d finished my fries and burger, I then opened my hot chocolate which was still lovely and hot and sweet, it was perfect, all of the meal was perfect and for just over £3 I savoured each sweet mouthful, this was better than a roast chicken dinner, to me, today. I looked at my Facebook as I ate and unwind. I felt full.
I then walked the short distance to my 24-hour Tesco and bought cat food, milk and bread, it was dark on the way home as the time had changed. As I drove and was near home, I was still thinking of the young lad I’d seen earlier, when suddenly something swerved past me as I was turning into my one way road, coming down the slight hill at speed in the wrong direction on the one way road was a young lad dressed in dark clothing, with no lights on his bike, it looked like he was going at 50mph, I didn’t see him at all, if he hadn’t of swerved, he’d have been killed in an instant! As we would have crashed head on. His silly actions shuck me up! Really unnerved me, as I parked the car a few seconds later, and relived what just happened and what tragedy could have happened.
I didn’t know which was worse, the lad standing still, or the lad speeding at me at 50mph! I DO hope it wasn’t because of drugs for the first lad, but if it was, I hope he will learn from it, and if he was unwell that he will go to his doctors, either way I wish him well. He had a profound effect on me.
