Today I spoke to the Manager of the Hotel Jane, I asked her, “Can I have the ring?” She replied, “No, all lost property will be valued and sold and the money given to charity,” I told her, “I don’t want it to go to charity, I want to have it, I did the right thing by handing it in,” Her reply was, “Do the right thing again and let it go to charity, I won’t be giving you the ring.” She went on, “We are not the police, that give items back 28 days if they are not reclaimed.” Jane added further, “Aren’t you happy that it’s going to charity?” I replied, “I’m having a clear out, and it is all going to charity,” I felt like she was trying to make me feel bad, for wanting the ring for myself, instead of it been sold and going to a charity.
I was disappointed, but not gutted, I told her, “Should I find anything again, I would never hand it in, I would take it to the police station instead." I DO regret not doing that now for the ring would have been mine. I’ve recently had my garden done, but I need a lawn, it would have paid for that, and the bathroom window has been jammed for two years, this November.
Ah well, swings and roundabout.
